ΨΥΧΟΣΑΒΒΑΤΟ-SATURDAY OF THE SOULS

SATURDAY OF THE SOULS

THE FALLEN ASLEEP LOVED ONES ARE WAITING FOR US ; DO NOT FORGET THEM

Psychosavvato (Saturday of the Souls) is called the Saturday before the Lent (Apokreos Sunday) and the Saturday before the Pentecost.

Although all Saturdays of the year are dedicated to the souls of Christians who have fallen asleep over the centuries, in the hope of their resurrection at the second Coming of Christ, according to the Scriptures, the Church honors and especially their memory on the two aforementioned Psychosavvata

The first Psychosavvato for this year, falls on March 6.

The commemoration in the Saturday of the Souls of all those who have departed remind us that they are not absent from our lives, but they are present in the history of the Church, which is not constituted only by those who are alive, but also, of all those who had been baptized members of it in the past. They may not be alive in flesh, but they remain alive in the memory of God and of the Church.

For this reason, we chant and pray so that their memory may be eternal.

The Saturday of the Souls will be celebrated with only 10 persons in the Church. If you would like the names of your beloved departed commemorated in our prayers, place the names in an envelope and bring the envelope to the church along with the kollyva and prosforo (if you elect to) as follows:

Friday between 4 and 5 p.m. (and return to pick-up the koliva between 6:30 and 7 p.m)

Saturday between 8 and 9 a.m. (and return to pick-up the kollyva between 11 and 11:30 p.m)

Please place a card with your name inside your kollyva plate/bowl.

It is not permitted to distribute the kollyva inside the church.

In case that you cannot attend or come to the church, for a minimal donation of $50, we will light up a Kandili  for the departed and Father Lambros will commemorate the names.

At the same time, your donation offering will help sustain the church and its operation during this unprecedented pandemic period.

This initiative is running at the same time as our other initiatives {light a candle (for $10) and give us the names of your Living or the Departed, or make a general donation} and all initiatives have to be processed separately.

By pressing the link Donate below, when you make your donation, and after choosing PayPal or Credit Card payment, under the amount, ( in the Add Note to GOCWI section), please  provide the name or names  for the Trisagion, Mnimosyno service, or praying for the names of the departed..

If you prefer using conventional p0stal service you may  send your donation by issuing a check to the Greek Orthodox Community of West Island.
